Backcountry Adventure Tips

Have The Gear - Every backcountry skier should have a beacon, shovel, and a probe with them in their backpack that is easily accessible. These are a must-have when exploring the backcountry!

Know The Gear - Use, test, and get familiar with our avalanche equipment. There are plenty of videos online that can show you how to test and use your equipment… Don't let the first time you go into the backcountry be the first time you use your gear.

Have A Friend - Never go alone! Snowboarding in the backcountry should be done with at least 1 other person and make sure everyone is on the same page about safety and there is communication.

Communication - Make sure you bring your phone and if you are in an area with a bad network consider satellite communication (Spot, Inreach, etc…)

Protection - A helmet is always a good idea in the backcountry, warm clothes, extra gloves, first aid kit, and fire starter.

Avalanche Training - Exploring the backcountry should not be taken lightly. The risk of triggering an avalanche is always possible. By doing taking an avalanche training course, you will know how to use your gear, make decisions based on the conditions, terrain, and situation a lot better. Knowledge is a lifesaver in certain situations

Know Before You Go - Read the local snow reports and weather forecast and get familiar with the current snowpack and reports for the area you are planning your adventures in. Avalanche Conditions.

Plan Your Adventure - Making the effort to plan and go into detail of your trip gives you a solid platform and more information to make the trip more reliable, enjoyable, safer, and easier to adjust when you need to.

Bring Food And Water - be prepared for the unexpected, stay hydrated, and energized.
